This month’s panel hosted by the Pinay Powerhouse Collective and NFALA’s Women’s Committee features Pinay Powerhouse In-House Leaders from across the nation and across industries: Christine Pompa (YETI), Mary June Casalmir (Verizon), Rhean Fajardo (Oakland A’s) and Janice Jabido (Peloton)! This panel will be moderated by our recently minted in-house attorney powerhouse Katrina Romero Durek (FP Transitions).

Panelists:

Christine Pompa is the Assistant General Counsel at YETI and leads the teams responsible for providing legal support in the areas of Intellectual Property, Advertising/Marketing, Brand Protection, and Litigation.  Christine is also the Co-Chair of YETI’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and serves as the Leadership Champion for the Asian Pacific Islander Employee Affinity Group.  At YETI, she is responsible for the management of all disputes and litigation and the management and oversight of all aspects of YETI’s global intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade dress, and all other IP-related matters integral to YETI’s operations. 

Prior to joining YETI, Christine was the lead global patent counsel at The Kraft Heinz Company, where she was responsible for developing and managing the strategy for the company’s global patent portfolio.  Before that, Christine was in private practice for 12 years at Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery, an IP boutique firm in Chicago.

June Casalmir is Associate General Counsel, Antitrust & Strategic Projects at Verizon. She began her Verizon career in 2014, and has previously led legal support of Verizon retail operations, Fios and wireless marketing and advertising teams, and the Visible organization.  She has previously worked in-house in the telecommunications industry, in private practice specializing in antitrust & consumer protection, and started her legal career at the Federal Trade Commission. June currently serves as an At-Large Trustee on the executive board of the National Filipino American Lawyers Association. She received her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999, and her bachelor’s degree from Duke University in1995, where she was a varsity cheerleader.

Rhean Fajardo is Associate General Counsel with the Oakland Athletics. In her role, Rhean works on some of the most exciting issues in Major League Baseball including real estate matters related to the development of the new ballpark site and redevelopment of the existing Coliseum and Arena complex site. Rhean’s day to day practice also includes support of the corporate partnerships, stadium operations, baseball operations, ticketing, marketing, and community and events teams. Rhean also serves as counsel for the San Jose Earthquakes, a Major League Soccer Club.  

Prior to joining the A’s front office, she served as Corporate Counsel at several Bay Area companies focusing on fin tech, bio tech and, most recently, cybersecurity and digital safety at Norton LifeLock where she advised on a wide range of innovative business development initiatives and strategic partnerships, including commercial and technology licensing agreements for both domestic and international deals. Herexperience also includes a 6-year stint in the public sector as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Daly City. Rhean earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco, School of Law and her B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Janice Jabido is Director, IP Litigation & Enforcement for Peloton Interactive.  Peloton uses technology and design to connect the world through fitness, empowering people to be the best version of themselves anywhere, anytime.Janice is responsible for all aspects of intellectual property, including litigation and post-grant review, as well as development of strategies to manage patent, trade secret, copyright, and trademark portfolios.  Janice also provides counsel on general, transactional, and compliance client matters related to intellectual property.  

Prior to joining Peloton, Janice was Director & Senior IPCounsel for Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in the design, manufacture, and service of commercial and military aircraft engines.  Prior to moving in-house, Janice spent nearly a decade in private practice, and has practiced in many district courts throughout the country as well as the Federal Circuit, the ITC, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.  

Janice is currently a vice-chair of the diversity committee of the PTAB Bar Association, and has been active on the board of the National Filipino American Lawyers Association as Regional Governor, Secretary, Vice President for Membership and At-Large.  In addition, Janice served as secretary for the Asian American Bar Association of Greater Chicago.  Janice received her J.D. and B.S.E. from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.  She has also spent visiting semesters studying at the University of Chicago and Cambridge University, Trinity College.

Moderator

Katrina Romero Durek  is an Attorney at FP Transitions, a business consulting company based in Lake Oswego, Oregon. She handles mergers and acquisitions, transaction support, and advises on compensation structuring and growth strategies. Prior to joining FPT, Katrina was Senior Counsel at the national law firm Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani. Before that, she was Partner at Burnham Brown, a mid-size law firm based in California. While in private practice, she advised and represented multinational and Fortune 500 companies in the industries of retail, real estate, recreational sports, and gig economy, in the areas of business and commercial litigation, employment law, and tort liability. Katrina earned her J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law, and her B.A. at University of California Berkeley.

Katrina serves as Northwest Regional Governor for the National Filipino American Lawyers Association and Secretary for the Oregon Filipino American Lawyers Association.
