Pinay Powerhouse

A women’s collective focused on empowering Pinay attorneys, future attorneys, and legal professionals as leaders in the law.

  • Annual Conference

In 2016, Pinay Powerhouse founders Christine Start, Mari Bandoma Callado, Lorna Garcia De Guzman, Vanessa Candelaria and Jennifer Sta. Ana envisioned a women’s conference focused on empowering Filipina attorneys and aspiring attorneys as leaders in the law.

With the support of the women of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California (FBANC), the founders’ vision came to fruition in 2017. Following the success of the inaugural conference, the Pinay Powerhouse Conference has been hosted by other Filipino/a/x bar associations in the United States.

  • Rooted in Practice: Pinays in Law

Our first book, @rootedpractices_pinaysinlaw, was published by @sawagariverpress and illustrated by @angeltrazo in 2022.

We are thrilled to be collaborating with Sawaga River Press on another anthology focused on our six active values.

    Deadline: August 31, 2024

  • Quarterly Pinay Powerhouse Circles

Each Quarter, the Pinay Powerhouse Collective hosts a virtual circle intentionally cultivated for self-identified Pinay Powerhouse attorneys and aspiring attorneys.

Sessions will not be recorded and all participants agree to keep what is shared within the circle.

Join us for our upcoming Pinay Powerhouse Conference hosted in Washington, DC!

Our annual Pinay Powerhouse conference will be hosted by the Filipino American Lawyers of DC (FALA DC) from March 7-9, 2025! This year’s theme is Pinay Powerhouse 8: Advoc8 & Ingat where we will gather to learn how to sustainably advocate for ourselves and our community.

We believe that our Pinay Powerhouse community can only rise when we activate the power of advocacy and ingat (taking care of ourselves) together in harmony. Our advocacy theme will feature experts who will speak on the importance of advocating for disaggregated data, advocating for our family members through the immigration justice system, and how to advocate for our own bodies through reproductive justice. Our ingat theme will hold space where our attendees will learn how to honor our bodies to ensure that our advocacy is sustainable through movement, art, music, and food.
